General Methods of Repatriation of a Deceased Person to Ghana

Where the deceased holds a valid Ghanaian passport, no additional documentation is required from the Mission for the repatriation of the mortal remains to Ghana.

However, where the deceased does not hold a valid Ghanaian passport, a letter issued by the Mission will be required to serve as a travel document.

The following documents are required for the issuance of the Mission’s letter:

  • Certified copy of the Death Certificate
  • Embalming Certificate
  • Free-from-infection Certificate
  • Copy of the expired bio-data page of the deceased’s Ghanaian passport or any Ghanaian identification document. If unavailable, the following may be provided instead:
    • Valid Ghanaian identification of a relative or next of kin
    • A signed letter confirming the identity of the deceased and the relationship to the applicant
  • Two (2) passport-sized photographs
  • Fee: CHF 0.00
