Academic and Research Opportunities for Ghanaian Applicants

The Ghana Permanent Mission in Geneva provides general information on officially recognised pathways available to Ghanaian students and researchers interested in pursuing academic or research opportunities in Switzerland. The Mission does not administer scholarships and does not offer academic placement services.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships

Ghanaian nationals are eligible to apply for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships, offered annually by the Swiss Confederation through the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

These scholarships typically support:

  • Research fellowships at publicly funded Swiss universities and research institutes
  • Doctoral studies (PhD)
  • Postdoctoral research

Each year, the Swiss Embassy in Accra publishes the official, country-specific requirements, eligibility criteria and application deadlines. Applicants must follow the guidelines issued by the Swiss Embassy.

Studying at Swiss Universities

Public universities and institutes of technology in Switzerland admit international students, including applicants from Ghana. These institutions include:

  • University of Geneva
  • University of Lausanne
  • University of Zurich
  • ETH Zurich
  • EPFL Lausanne

Admission requirements, tuition fees and language policies differ by institution. Prospective applicants should consult the relevant university directly for accurate and up-to-date information.

Important Note: The Mission does not process scholarship applications and does not manage university admissions.
