Renunciation of citizenship

Loss of Ghanaian citizenship is a serious and irrevocable act which deserves careful and thoughtful consideration. It is imperative that applicants fully understand the nature and consequences of this decision prior to requesting a Certificate of Loss of Nationality.

If you decide to pursue this course of action, you will be required to complete several steps, including arranging an appointment at the Embassy to sign the Loss of Citizenship documentation in the presence of a Consular Officer. Applicants should note that the Statement of Understanding clearly affirms that this action is irreversible.

Please remember that expatriation is a personal right and cannot be exercised by another person, including parents or legal guardians.

Applicants who wish to proceed by making an appointment with a Consular Officer to renounce their Ghanaian citizenship should send an email to consular@ghanamission.ch.
