Ghana Participates in the 151st IPU Assembly

The 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 19th to 23rd October, 2025 under the theme “Upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis”. The Assembly brought together IPU Member Parliaments and other stakeholders.

The delegation from the Parliament of Ghana, led by the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, included Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, First Deputy Majority Whip, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, First Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Hon. David Theophilus Dominic Vondee, Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn and other officials of Parliament of Ghana. The Ghana Permanent Mission in Geneva was represented at the Assembly by H.E. Emmanuel Antwi, Permanent Representative and Mrs. Audrey Neequaye, First Secretary.

During the General Debate, Ghana stressed the importance of parliaments in maintaining humanitarian standards and enhancing humanitarian responses in crises. Ghana also underlined the significance of legislative frameworks and parliamentary capacity in tackling emerging threats to human security and governance.

Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin was elected as President of the African Group of the IPU at an African Geopolitical Group meeting held on the margins of the Assembly. It is also worth noting that the Governing Council of the IPU nominated Honourable Joycelyn Tetteh Quarshie as a member of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.
